We build our insulated composite body on the Ford Transit 350 and 350HD cutaway chassis — a nimble, efficient gas van with all-wheel drive available. Starting from a cutaway (a cab and bare frame) instead of a finished cargo van, we mount a square, four-season composite habitat with true standing room, in three lengths from the compact FV-138 to the 95-square-foot FV-178.

A stock cargo van gives you curved walls, a ribbed metal skin, and no insulation — everything has to be furred out and squared up before the real build begins. A cutaway is just the cab and frame, which lets us install a purpose-built composite body: flat, square walls, a true 7-foot interior height, and a 36-inch cab-over with a full passthrough to the cab. You get more usable, buildable space and a warmer, quieter habitat than a converted cargo van of the same footprint.
The Transit is the value pick of the van platforms — typically less to buy and less to own than a Sprinter, with a gas V6 that needs no diesel or DEF and fuel at every station. Full-time all-wheel drive is available for confident all-weather traction with no driver input, and a large dealer and service network nationwide means parts and repairs are easy to find. A lower step-in height makes it feel more car-like day to day.
The Transit body can be built with the RampDeck — the whole rear wall drops into a ramp and a load-bearing deck, then seals back up into an insulated composite wall. Roll a side-by-side straight in, open it into a railed patio, or make a heavy load-in easy. See the RampDeck for how it works.
Common questions
Three: the FV-138 (72.5 sq ft) on the Transit 350 cutaway, and the FV-156 (82 sq ft) and FV-178 (95 sq ft) on the 350HD cutaway. All share a 7-foot interior height, 80.5-inch width, a 36-inch cab-over, and a full cab passthrough.
Yes — full-time all-wheel drive is available on the Transit and is a popular choice for all-season traction. It is not a low-range 4x4 like the E-Series conversion, but it handles snow, dirt, and light trails confidently.
The Foundation body is identical on either cutaway, so the decision is the chassis. Choose the Transit for value, gas simplicity, and easy service; choose the Sprinter for diesel range and torque, high-mileage longevity, and resale. See the Sprinter platform page for the other side.
Yes. The body leaves our shop road-legal and titled, so you can outfit it yourself or take it to any professional builder. We supply the platform; the interior is yours.
