Our heaviest-duty build puts a composite habitat on a military-grade chassis — LMTV, FMTV, and other heavy platforms — for the most remote routes on earth. It’s a 2.5-inch, Azdel-reinforced composite panel on a four- or five-point Zero-Torsion subframe, engineered and custom-built to the chassis.

The engineering challenge of a larger chassis

A big military-grade frame flexes a great deal over extreme terrain, and it carries a long, heavy habitat. That combination is exactly why the mounting matters most here: too rigid and the body cracks; unmanaged, the loads concentrate at the wrong points. A four- or five-point Zero-Torsion subframe distributes and isolates those forces, letting the chassis articulate fully while the composite body stays square and sealed.

The 2.5-inch Azdel-reinforced body

The habitat uses our thickest 2.5-inch composite panel (a continuous R17), reinforced with Azdel composite sublaminate for abuse resistance, insulated for four-season use, and sized to the chassis with a cab passthrough and cab-over. The same body system adapts to other heavy expedition chassis. We build and install it as a final-stage manufacturer; the interior is finished by you or your builder.

Which heavy-duty chassis does Foundation build on?

Military-grade LMTV and FMTV platforms, and the same body system adapts to other heavy expedition chassis. Every heavy-duty build is engineered and quoted to the specific chassis — we don’t claim to support every heavy chassis ever made, so tell us yours and we’ll confirm.

Why four- or five-point mounting instead of the van subframe?

A larger, heavier body on a frame that flexes a lot needs the loads spread across more isolated points. Four- or five-point Zero-Torsion mounting manages that torsion so the rigid composite habitat isn’t stressed by the frame twisting underneath it.

Is this offered as a kit?

No — the heavy-duty expedition body we build and install for you. It is fully custom and engineered to the chassis, not a DIY kit.
